Modalities are the therapeutic methods and interventions I may use in counseling. They are different from theories, which help guide how I understand and conceptualize a client’s history, experiences, and presenting concerns.
I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches and integrate them according to the person and the concerns they bring into therapy. My approach may include the following, among other modalities:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Behavioral and Cognitive Techniques
Psychodynamic Therapy
Attachment-Based Therapy
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Gottman-informed Couples Therapy
Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed
Somatic Experiencing-informed
Polyvagal-informed
EMDR and NET- informed
Person-Centered Therapy
Brief Solution-Focused Therapy
Motivational Interviewing
Positive Psychology
Strengths-Based
Virtue-based
Expressive Therapies, including Art, Music, and Play
Trauma-Aware Approaches
Prayer and Spiritually Integrated Counseling, when desired by the client
My work is informed by the Catholic Christian Meta-Model of the Human Person, which understands the person as an integrated whole. Psychological, relational, bodily, moral, and spiritual dimensions of human experience are often deeply connected.
