What We Pay Attention To
Therapy involves both content and process. Content is what brings you into the room—the experiences, relationships, circumstances, symptoms, and questions you want to explore. Process is what happens as we engage those things: how you relate, respond, protect yourself, make meaning, and experience yourself and others.
We will attend to both. We will talk about what is happening in your life, while also paying attention to how you experience it and what happens between us in the room. Sometimes the process reveals something that the content alone cannot. It can help us recognize patterns that have become familiar, understand what they may be protecting or communicating, and begin to make different choices.
Both matter, but process often tells us where the deeper work is. It is one thing to understand what has happened to us. It is another to notice how we have come to live in response to it—and to discover that we may have more freedom than we once thought.
