The Stages of Therapy
Therapy often involves three movements: exploration, insight, and action. We begin by exploring what is happening—your experiences, relationships, patterns, and the things that have brought you into therapy. From there, we can begin to understand those experiences more deeply: how certain patterns developed, what they may have helped you navigate, and how they continue to shape the present. Then comes action—beginning to live differently in light of what we have come to understand.
These movements are not necessarily linear. We may return to exploration as new things come to light, or discover something through trying a different way of responding. The point is not simply to understand ourselves better, but to allow that understanding to become something we can actually live.
